Courtney L. Russo, MD began his interest in sports medicine as a student athletic trainer for 4 years at Alcee Fortier High School. He then went on to Tulane University to receive his Bachelors of Science in 1961, where he was also a member of the T club and a Tulane letterman. In 1965 he received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. He performed his internship at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana between 1965 and 1966. After completing his internship, he served in the United States Navy with the 2nd Marine Division as General Medical Officer from 1966 to 1968. He then returned to New Orleans to complete his Orthopedic residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in 1972. During his residency, he also undertook a hand fellowship with Dr. Daniel Riordan in 1971. In 1972, he joined the practice of Lenoir, Weilbacher, and Licciardi, which is now Audubon Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Russo has been a life long resident of New Orleans and has donated much of his time to the community. He served as team physician for Archbishop Rummel High School for 32 years and in 2004 was inducted into the Rummel Hall of Fame. He also served as team physician for Lutheran High School for 20 years. He enjoys spending time with his wife, four daughters and eight grandchildren.
